La Santa Cecilia - August 2

Chicano folk-rock meets pan-Latin rhythms

La Santa Cecilia exemplifies the new, modern pan-Latino aesthetic. The Los Angeles-based six-member band creatively combines up-tempo South American rhythms like Cumbia and Bossa Nova with the nostalgic Bolero and passionate Tango, blending in Afro-Cuban percussion, rock and jazz to bring about a mix that defies any particular musical genre.

La Sirena y Orquesta Mar de Ashé - August 3

Traditional salsa dance party music with dance instruction from Atomic Ballroom

Cuba. Puerto Rico. Nicaragua. Venezuela. México. The Dominican Republic. Perú. Colombia. And, of course, the United States. These are among the rainbow of nationalities that harmoniously blend together into the mighty ocean of talent that is Orquesta Mar De Ashé.

Led by vocalist La Sirena and directed by trombone virtuoso Mike Daigeau, Orquesta Mar de Ashé presents a delicious, eclectic variety of danceable Salsa, Latin Jazz, Son, Cumbia, Cha Cha, Bachata, Merengue and Bolero.

The talented members of this 12-piece orchestra have played all over the globe for such diverse artists as Stevie Wonder, Dizzy Gillespie, Linda Ronstadt, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Doc Severinsen, Mel Tormé, Aretha Franklin and James Brown, to name only a few.

Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band, featuring Christian Scott: Saturday - August 4

Cubano Be Cubano Bop, a program celebrating the Latin jazz collaboration of Bebop legend Dizzy Gillespie and Cuban conguero Chano Pozo

For more than three decades, Poncho Sanchez has stirred up a fiery stew of jazz, gritty soul music and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources.

This weekend is just one part of the Flights & Sounds Summer Festival.
