The Orange County Great Park invites you to the opening reception for the Farmers to Flyers exhibition.
Farmers to Flyers: Marine Corps Air Station El Toro and Mid-century Orange County is a
thought-provoking historical and educational exhibition that memorializes the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro’s fifty year tradition of service and sacrifice. Inspired by 400 oral history interviews conducted with veterans that served at MCAS El Toro, this special exhibition features historical photos, documents and artifacts that vividly capture and describe the influence of MCAS El Toro in shaping mid-century Orange County. The exhibition explores related topics, including agriculture, dramatic urban growth, industrial expansion, freeway construction, parks and master planned cities.
The exhibition is project of the Orange County Great Park and the Center for Oral and Public History at California State University, Fullerton.
While at the Farmers to Flyers exhibition, walk across the Palm Courts Art Complex to the Great Park Artist Studios and enjoy 1942, a collection of contemporary artist depictions of the year 1942.
