Join us as we explore the basics of how to grow edibles in a series of garden workshops developed in cooperation with the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Orange County.
Orange County Great Park thanks the UCCE Master Gardeners for their collaboration in maintaining the Farm + Food Lab and developing the Garden Workshops.

of the month, February through July

Feb 5 – Starting Your Plants from Seed
Have you always wanted to grow unique and interesting flowers and vegetables? Are you tired of the plant selection at your local nursery? If so, join us for an in-depth lecture on the “do’s and don’ts” of successful seed starting.
March 5 – Warm Season Vegetables
This appropriately-timed lecture focuses on the best edibles to plant now to ensure a bountiful harvest in the summer and fall.
April 2 – Soil, Composting and Fertilizers
Come prepared with all your questions! Knowledgeable UCCE Master Gardeners and Master Composters of Orange County will guide you through all your soil, composting, and fertilizing problems.
May 7 – IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
Are your plants being eaten by weird insects? Does your tomato plant have brown spots and yellowing leaves? Are you looking for pesticide-free alternatives to manage your garden pests? Then this is the lecture for you!
June 4 – Growing Your Own Backyard Fruit
Looking to grow apples, watermelons, and everything in between? Find out about the varieties that grow best in Orange County and how to plant and care for them.
July 2 – Harvesting Safety and Storage
It’s time to start thinking about what to do with all the fruits and vegetables coming out of your garden. UCCE Master Food Preservers of Orange County will guide you through the different methods of preserving your garden bounty.
