Great Park Welcomes New Artist-in-Residence Deborah Aschheim

Artist-in-Residence Deborah Aschheim Hosts Public Scan-a-Thon December 4

Great Park Welcomes New Artist-in-Residence Deborah Aschheim

IRVINE – Bring your photos from the ‘60s and ‘70s and the stories behind them for the Great Park’s newest Artist-in-Residence Deborah Aschheim to weave into her latest project. Aschheim’s art is based on invisible networks of perception and thought, making your photos and stories an important basis for creativity. She recently explored the subject of memory that led to her to collaborate with musicians and neuroscientists, and now Deborah wants to collaborate with you. The Scan-a-Thon will take place Sunday, December 4 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Great Park Artists Studios.

Dust off those photos of you, your parents, your grandparents, your house, your car, or anything from the ’60s or ‘70s and bring them to the Great Park Scan-A-Thon for Deborah to scan and incorporate into her project. Anything you bring to contribute to the project will be scanned or photographed on Sunday, for Deborah to use in a future art project. The contributions will be uncredited and anonymous, to encourage open sharing of memories and images.

Images and written memories will be displayed in the Artists Studios. Deborah is also interested in collecting and journaling memories from that era, especially those that relate to her life-long fascination with Richard Nixon. Photos of Nixon, Spiro Agnew, John F. Kennedy or Dwight D. Eisenhower are especially needed for Deborah’s project.

Admission and parking are free. To learn more about Deborah Aschheim and her upcoming programs, visit www.ocgp.org.

The Great Park Artists-in-Residence program is dedicated to showcasing artists, providing an educational experience for the community while designing site-specific art for the Great Park. The program provides artists with suitable studio space and open studio hours to routinely interact with the general public during their six-month engagement. The artists were selected by a panel of public arts experts through a competitive selection process administered by Arts Orange County, the county’s designated local arts agency.

The Orange County Great Park is located off the 5 or 405 freeway at Sand Canyon and Marine Way in Irvine. For directions or more information, please visit www.ocgp.org or call 949-724-OCGP.
