GREAT 948 EXHIBITION CLOSES NOVEMBER 13

IRVINE – There are many artists among us and you’ll be impressed with what they’ve created in just a small 6×6-inch space. Residents across Orange County were invited to participate in the Great 948 exhibition, a public arts project that features a collection of beautifully crafted colorful mini artworks created by people of all ages who live, work and play in Orange County. The exhibition opened in September and closes after this weekend. The last day is Sunday, November 13.

Together, the tiles adorn the long walls of the Great Park Artists Studios, celebrating Orange County’s 948 square miles through creative expression. Each tile tells the unique story about a time and place that is special to the artist. See the exhibition in its final weekend, this Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Artists Studios in the Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex.

When the project began, the Park reached out to the public as well as more than twenty arts and education partners to seek artists who would create their own tile artwork using any medium. Many teachers and schools used the project to create special assignments with the program serving as way for students to express themselves through art.

The Great Park Artists Studios is home to the Park’s Artists-in-Residence program. Visitors can walk inside a camera obscura at the Artists Studios, or walk across the Palm Court Plaza to the Great Park Gallery. The current exhibition, The Great Picture: The World’s Largest Photograph & The Legacy Project, tells the story of the world’s largest photograph taken with the largest camera – a former El Toro F18 hangar. The exhibition runs through January 29, 2012.

The Orange County Great Park is located at Sand Canyon and Marine Way, and can easily be reached by the 5 or 405 freeways. For more information, visit, please visit www.ocgp.org or call 949-724-6800.
