Great Park Announces ‘Scarecrows in the Park’ Winners
Inaugural event benefits food bank and agricultural education

November 9, 2010 – IRVINE, California – On October 23, visitors to the Orange County Great Park Pumpkin Harvest cast their ballots in a rather unique election. Hundreds of visitors voted on their favorite scarecrow at the inaugural “Scarecrows in the Park” contest, which benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and the Great Park agricultural education programs. The scarecrows were built by local businesses, and entry fees raised thousands of dollars for the two worthy organizations.
Twelve companies and organizations created their own unique scarecrow for the competition, and entries are on display through November 19 in the Great Park Farm & Food Lab. The scarecrow winners are:
- Best Dressed: Land Advisors Organization and The Spindler Family Foundation, “Candy Man”
- Best Theme: Utopia Entertainment, Inc.: “Lady GaREEN GaREEN”
- Best in “Crow”: Dudek, “The CROW-minator”
“We thank the local companies, organizations and volunteers that participated in the contest and helped raise thousands of dollars to help feed needy families,” said Larry Agran, Chair, Orange County Great Park Corporation. “We look forward to featuring even more scarecrows next year.”
The Pumpkin Harvest also helped local food banks by encouraging visitors to bring canned goods in exchange for the chance to win raffle prizes. More than 7,000 visitors to the Great Park Pumpkin Harvest donated more than 1,800 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and the Orange County Food Bank. The raffle prizes were donated by local businesses, including tickets to the Honda Center performance of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring The Rockettes, tickets to Irvine Barclay Theatre, a gift card to PF Chang’s, tickets to the Bowers Museum and tickets to the Pacific Symphony.
The Orange County Great Park Corporation would like to extend a special thanks to our 2010 Pumpkin Harvest Sponsors:

About the Great Park
The Orange County Great Park, with its 1,347-acre master plan, is the focal point of the redevelopment of the publicly-owned portion of the 4,700-acre former Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro. The Great Park is currently 27.5 acres and includes an iconic tethered helium balloon that rises 400 feet in the air, providing an aerial view of Park development. A $70 million development plan to expand the Park to more than 200 acres is currently underway. The plan will build out a core section of the Park for the most immediate and wide-ranging public benefit, including the initial components of the sports park, a 114-acre agricultural area, and an art and culture exhibition space.
