February 13, 2009 – IRVINE, California – Get out your skates, mittens and jackets. The Great Park is gliding into its first ever 2009 Winter Program schedule beginning with the Great Skate at the temporary Great Park Ice Rink on Saturday, February 14th. In addition to ice skating, families can enjoy Valentine craft-making, and a figure skating exhibition. The Great Skate is the first of a series of free winter programs that runs through March 15th. Great Park Winter will also include a final event on March 14th complete with ice skating and other traditional winter activities such as sledding, snow man making, ice carving demonstrations and seasonal themed art activities. The Great Skate event of February 14th runs from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with hourly skating. Ice time and skates are free for all.
The Anaheim Ducks Street Team will also be on hand to skate, greet visitors and celebrate Valentine’s Day with friends and fans just outside the temporary ice rink located in the Preview Park near the orange balloon. The Street Team will be at most Great Skate events throughout the month.
“The Anaheim Ducks are happy to assist the Orange County Great Park in launching its 2009 Winter Program schedule,” said Ducks Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer Bob Wagner. “The Great Park Ice Rink helps further the growth of hockey in Orange County, something that the Ducks are fully committed to within our community.” The Anaheim Ducks are promoting the Great Skate directly to their Ducks Fan Club members and announcing it live at their games.
“Partnering with the Anaheim Ducks and the launch of our winter programs marks another milestone for the Great Park,” said Larry Agran, Chair, Orange County Great Park Board. “We are thrilled that the Anaheim Ducks will attend the opening of our 2009 Great Park Winter programs and participate in Great Skate events.”
