Great Park Board Approves Further Development of Priority Programs

FEBRUARY 15, 2008 – IRVINE, California – On Thursday, the Orange County Great Park Board of Directors approved feasibility studies for seven priority programs proposed for the Great Park. Among the
programs are an aircraft museum, a boarding school for foster-care youth, a water science park, and the county’s largest sports park. Other program concepts approved for study include agriculture, a demonstration garden and a center for non-profit community organizations. Eight additional priority programs will be reviewed later this spring.

“The Great Park Board is pleased that these priority programs are moving forward for further development,” said Larry Agran, Chair Orange County Great Park Board Corporation.

Late last year, the Great Park Board approved more than 60 programs for inclusion in the Park’s schematic design. Once the feasibility studies are completed, the Board will have the information needed to decide how to move forward with completing the Park design.

The Orange County Great Park, which is almost twice the size of Central Park, will be a major metropolitan park and the focal point of the redevelopment of the 4,700-acre former Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro. The Great Park will include extensive natural areas and open space in addition to recreational and cultural uses.
