So popular at the Great Park last summer that he was invited back immediately, Johnny Polanco is our favorite salsero, with regular gigs at El Floridita, The Mayan and other iconic Southland venues.

The Bronx-born Polanco began performing with his uncles when he was 13 and by 14 he was performing professionally with the Steve Colon Band. Proficient on guitar, tres, violin, vibes, bass, percussion and other instruments, he played in several bands on both coasts – and served in the Marines, stationed at El Toro Air Station, located at is now the Orange County Great Park – before starting his own band Conjunto Amistad in 1993. They have since not only become one of the hottest salsa bands in the nation, but they’re played a sizable part in the resurgence in popularity of the music. Artist Website
