Don’t let their thuggish good looks fool you; Lucky 7 Mambo plays some of the most romantic music this side of Havana. It’s also music that instantly heats up a dance floor with the septet’s Afro-Cuban rhythms. Plaintive vocals plus roiling percussion equals dancing pleasure, the reason why Lucky 7 Mambo are one of the hottest acts in Los Angeles’ burgeoning Latin music scene, combining Cuban son with African-American jazz and Puerto Rican rhythms. Along with Great Park favorites Johnny Polanco and other major LA-area Latin artists, Lucky 7 Mambo records on the Dimelo label.

Lucky 7’s lush sound comes in part from them incorporating a vibraphone — rarely heard these days in mambo or any music — and in large part from the band members’ rich experience, which includes its individual members working with Dizzy Gillespie, Celia Cruz, Britney Spears, Joan Sebastian, Tito Puente, Sheila E, Tupac Shakur, the Pointer Sisters, Herb Alpert, Linda Ronstadt, Shelby Lynne, Vicki Carr, Arturo Sandoval and other names.

And while not admitting to superstition of any kind, we think you’ll agree that spending the evening with a band called Lucky 7 Mambo is the perfect way to wrap up Friday the 13th. Official Website
